one now this is a train heading towards an airport and beside him is a woman and he does not know how to speak to her anymore and they are moving together as around them is the world that has just been a witness to the reignition of a war even more senseless than the last one that may have been born with reports of an epidemic that writes the name of a new disease that has never been and all three of these things including the woman and the war and the disease exist on a collision course because they intersect and he has become the point of their intersection and he does not know why he should have to answer for it as usual he has no explanation for it is not something that he would have chosen because he dislikes travel and he is bad at traveling and why is he moving anyway two he has begun to travel out of himself and into her and always ever into her and in his hands this unruly instrument as it becomes alive in every direction with the glow that darkens horizons compounded of equal parts war and disease and they may not survive it but it is worth the time to take the moment to examine that which may be lost because it is difficult to speak of this absent future because it is both unsettling and deeply exhilarating as it unfolds within the life and care is replaced by a careless intuition and becomes fueled by an urge to redirect and proliferate as surely as we reach the destinations three as the light from the clouds draws its address on her insurmountable architecture it does not light up the face that she keeps hidden in her secret geographies and he sees that she is lost when they arrive at the airport after having been pumped through occluded tunnels lined with the last cloying attempts to hold them warmly in this calcified uterus of speech and instead they replace one mystery with the miniscule death of reason that is called a terminal with arrival with departure with point to point and in between the great gray nonlife because are you awake this is the streamlined eleusis of aluminum and energy four and once inside the terminal they rest and await the process as these elements all combine and in this combination he thinks that he has an answer for the question that is asked between her and the war and the etiology and the airport is a cube of light sinking in the ocean of evening air beneath space like this unreasoning confidence in ourselves and our efforts that would have delivered us to the stars and instead left our potential down and out on the featureless plain and he thinks that we could not go there so instead we built ourselves a new there within the here five with an archaic tilt of jaw and depth of eye she flows like metal into the attitudes of decoration and impatient she will not accept this as boarding she complains of the delay occasioned by glance and stare in the departure lounge and behind her a voice whispers concern for the pronunciation of water and she realizes that the extensive security search at the boarding checkpoint took the place of a form of ritual abasement before the path of air and then the call comes and they board with the feeling of a world that is very close for so many children of this artificially prolonged adolescence six this as they rise away from the core of the world from which even the abominations have departed and the city is dissolved and as they rise her face is so rare as she sleeps with the last refracted glow from the clouds struggling against the light inside of him that decides that some sort of passage to a private corner of the greater decay of things of which the secrets are his food and the wine of delectation is her wine seven and she smiles at him from her seat where are we and her counterpart looks up through a tattered grate of cloud and he thinks that we surround ourselves deliberately with all the old attractions as we apply and reapply the same tired emotional medicines to soothe the evergrowing tremors of mortality and boredom and we wonder why our lives have been spent in the avoidance of the final understanding and he thinks that he must go into her as far as he can in search of that distant instant immeasurable where either she will grow to eclipse and in the end obliterate or she will wither away until she crumples and contorts like old plastic in fire and is consumed to secure her own reinvention eight as eyes slide past each other in the crowd of an eternal transit as an avoidance of the human responsibility without reference as she crawls over him in the night desirous of the contact and he is powerless to refuse as though a part of him or himself as the part was for a greater unity described by an order without issue and against the will and in accordance with the intuition of a creation and to duplicate its processes without hold without reserve without reason even when those processes no longer serve these ends at all nine things that he cannot understand in the voiceless echo backtracking for a mile to find himself waiting for the procedure to tick over again as the walls count themselves with the chairs the color and consistency of the ribs of some unidentifiable creature in rows of red metal and doors without handles that open of themselves as outside her nails cut paths in the healing sky and she gloats over her war and the interplay of these forces each of which its own name prospers and knowledge is minute and the attention is too perforated to allow for study and result as we grow old and the stars grow gray and the holiness of ignorance grows within this selfinduced symbiosis ten as the train screams on the rails as it arrives to bring them away to a place that must stop being invented now as she is glazed in sleep beside him he travels inside her as she brings him to a portion of the truth which is the part that makes him more than live and he cannot explain as this is dimly sensed and the events hurry in frame and the women that do not exist continue to indulge in their frightful ritual and the dead mount as they go and they are gone.
