Three Wherefores

(Theories of Causation)

Why do things turn out the way they do?
There may be several reasons.

While scientists once claimed
that genes and habitat determine outcomes,
they now concede that chance – perchance – influences our fates.

Examples seen of dice in life
lend credence to this notion,
intuited by animists and readers of the mind.

So why do things turn out which way?
Because,
because,
and for no cause
at all.
